How authentication methods work

Users can secure their account using several secondary authentication methods, including Email/SMS one-time passcodes (OTP), authenticator apps, and passkeys.

Email and SMS OTPs are simple and convenient because they do not require additional software, while authenticator apps provide stronger security by generating verification codes directly on the user’s device.

Passkeys offer the most streamlined and secure experience by allowing users to sign in using fingerprint, face recognition, or device PIN without needing to remember passwords or codes.

Each method has different benefits depending on the user’s preferences and device compatibility.

While Email/SMS OTP can be useful as a backup option, authenticator apps and passkeys generally provide stronger protection against phishing and unauthorized access.
